My first coin purchase.... was it OK?

I don't know..... But it was down to 4 minutes, so the quick research I had a chance to do showed me that some people are paying up to $25 or more for the 1944 coin...
I got 2 coins:
1944S Walking Liberty Half Dollar 1944 S
1942 p PWalking Liberty Half Dollar 1942p
for 10.00 USD plus shipping.
Ebay item 280190472783. Did I do OK, or no....?

melt value on that is $11.75- Walkers usually go for a little over melt depending on condition. the $25 coin you saw was probably uncirculated.
I'd say you did fine, now keep buying.

Just for the silver content ,the 2 coins are worth at least $15.
Unless you know how to grade coins, stick to buying just for the PM content.
You got rid of FRN's for something of value, that's always a good thing

So you traded some pieces of paper for 90% silver coins.. still a good thing.

If you can get some pictures up, we can examine them for numismatic value. Odds are, they are probably melt pieces, but regardless, you did better than most.

May I ask if this was your first purchase of silver in general, numismatic silver or both?

My first purchase was a bunch of JM 10 oz Bars.
The coins are a new thing for me, with a steep learning curve, but I want to learn as much as possible so I can diversify my Silver horde for the coming barter days.

No... not until the spot price gets up to $20.00 a troy oz. $1.30 to $1.50 premium is pretty normal. A $5.00 premium on a maple is just wrong.

Come to think of it, I'd be happy to sell you any number of SAE's for $21.30. Free shipping too. :bull-buddy-icon:

Check out apmex.com. Scratch that. Doesn't look like they have any 2007 maples right now. No boxes either. Hmmm.

Well, it sounds like you're on the right track. There are some good deals out there, just do a little digging. Also, if you decide to use ebay again, check out the bigger lots of 10-50 ounces, sometimes you get a better price on those, since there are fewer bidders, and the shipping cost is lower when you buy a few rather than one.

Anyway, best of luck!

LOL, thats how it begins. I'm surprised you did not jump to SAE first. Only buy by the tube. 20. Kooks come in plastic containers and 10 of them come by rolls. The 2oz, my fav, get by the 5's. the 10oz is fine by itself. The kook is the only coin that shines up the stash and can come out and play.
